Kilham

This route crosses chalk streams and the Driffield Navigation canal.

Directions

  • Head south along Market Place, bear right past the railway station and turn left on to Skerne Road, following blue and byway loop signs over the level crossing.
  • Turn second left in to Skerne Village to Hansford.
  • Having crossed the river and canal turn left, then following the brown byway loop signs turn right at the mini roundabout and right again on to Carr Lane.
  • Turn left at the T-Junction.
  • Turn right and keep following the blue national route 1 signs across the level crossing and through Lowthorpe.
  • Turn left after the small bridge to Harpham.
  • In Harpham turn right along the village main street and go straight over the crossroads passing St Johns Well.
  • Turn left at the next T-Junction.
  • Go straight through Burton Agnes, then turn left at the T-Junction and descend in to Kilham.
  • Bear left by the church and turn second left along Chapel Lane, bear right on to South Side then left away from the village.
  • Turn left for a steady climb up Nafferton Wold.
  • Turn right by the pond and church
  • Turn left at the traffic lights then right after the level crossing making your way back to the start.

Bempton

Admire the chalk cliffs as you cycle via Sewerby Hall to Bempton Cliffs RSPB Reserve.

Directions

  • From the north end of North Marine Promenade head along the cliff top path used by the land train past the coastguard station.
  • Turn left before the Ship Inn in Sewerby, turn right then left by the pub.
  • Bear right passing Sewerby Hall and Gardens.
  • Turn right on to Sheeprake Lane, then left in to Bempton following the blue route 1 signs.
  • Turn right passing the church then left and immediately right along Cliff Lane to the RSPB visitors centre.
  • Return to Bempton turn right and follow the blue 1 signs through Buckton and Grindale.
  • Turn left at the crossroads towards Ruston. Go through Rudston then turn left and follow the blue 1 signs all the way back along Woodgate and in to Bridlington.
  • Turn left down Limekiln Lane underneath the Railway to return to the promenade.

Hunmanby

Just inland from Filey, Hunmanby was once on of the 12 market towns in the East Riding.

Directions

  • Head north past the Church, bearing left uphill. Turn left after the mini roundabout.
  • Turn right at the crossroads then take a left towards Burton Fleming.
  • Go straight through Burton Fleming, and head on to Thwing Road.
  • Turn right following the brown byway sign.
  • Bear right in to Thwing. Turn left at the staggered crossroads then right on to Octon Road.
  • At the T-Junction turn right through Octon and downhill to Octon Grange.
  • At Octon Grange go straight over and slow down for the sharp left hand bend.
  • Go over the crossroads and follow the road round in to the village and turn right then take the left towards Ganton.
  • At Ganton Wold Farm turn right.
  • Go over the crossroads and descend to where dry valleys converge at Forden.
  • Go over the crossroads and then turn left at the next crossroads to Hunmanby.

Thixendale

Starting from Malton and Norton, this ride takes in Birdsall and Thixendale.

Directions

  • From Malton Station turn right and at the T-Junction turn right over the level crossing. Bear right on to the Stamford Bridge and Pocklington Road.
  • Turn the first left, go past the car park and then turn right at the T-Junction and cycle out of Norton over Langton Wold.
  • At the crossroads go straight ahead to Birdsall.
  • Turn left at the crossroads song the tree lined road and begin the descent through the valley.
  • Go through Thixendale and turn left at the T-Juntion.
  • Take a left, then left again, to Wharram-le-Street.
  • Pass the car park for Wharram Percy
  • At the bend follow the trail on to a track, then turn left when you reach the tarmac.
  • Turn right and drop down along the bumpy road over Grimston Brow cable grid.
  • Turn left at the T-Junction in North Grimston
  • Turn right at the crossroads and retrace your outward route back to Norton or Malton.
